Team LAWA At Its Best! (12/2006) - Team LAWA’s approach to volunteering was never more challenging and fulfilling than the toy sorting assignment members were faced with on Saturday, December 16, in anticipation of St. Margaret’s Holiday Party.

Despite the chilly temperature and the rain, the morning shift Team LAWA volunteers worked up a heavy sweat loading and unloading countless bags of toys and sorting them by gender and age. Volunteers deserving acknowledgement include: Patrick Tomcheck, Adriana Renteria, Sgt. Francisco Rivera, Eileen Reed and her husband Phillip, Sandy Launius, Alfred Tong and family, Diane Imori, Melony Goss and children, Angie Hu and Marilyn Wells.

The afternoon shift also did a splendid job with pre-party preparations. Kudos to Kathryn Pantoja and family, Connie Moore, Michelle Irwin, Nancy Mustard, Michelle Acquah, Andre Rocher, Tom Engell and Marlene Morgenstern.

The holiday party, hosted the following Monday, December 18, was a big success. Similar to an assembly line, families were pre-selected, assigned a time slot, and upon arrival children were escorted to the entertainment/arts and crafts area while parents "shopped" for toys. Bags of toys were collected from various organizations and LAX employees were among the donors.

Before families walked out of Santa’s little village inside the Hollywood Park Racetrack, toys were beautifully wrapped and each child was given a goody bag and a book. Santa’s airport helpers at the party were Paula Miura, John Silva, Michelle Brown and Lisa Antwine.

Thank you Team LAWA for your goodwill and generosity!
