Take a captivating journey through aviation past and present on a free guided tour of Van Nuys Airport (VNY). The airport’s award-winning educational and tour program gives visitors a close-up look at a wide variety of aircraft and a glimpse into the many activities of aviation companies and operations at VNY, which plays an important role in the nation’s air transportation system and the Southern California economy.
Visitors also learn about VNY’s contributions in providing vital community services and its rich and colorful history – such as its use over the years as a frequent backdrop for Hollywood films and television shows.
Tours run about 90 minutes and are offered to children (first grade and up) and adults on weekdays and select Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. (9:30 a.m. only during the summer months). The airport can reserve an air-conditioned bus for tours with a minimum of 15 participants. Visitors must provide their own transportation to and from the airport.
For the youngest visitors, a special feature of the tours involves a visit to “Vinny,” the airport’s colorful mascot and Southern California’s first kid-friendly educational airplane. Designed to be airborne, Vinny is accessible as a hands-on experience for children.
For those unable to visit the airport, free PowerPoint presentations also are available to groups of 15 or more in San Fernando Valley locations.
Reservations are required for airport tours and slide presentations. For more information and reservations, please call Van Nuys Airport Public and Community Relations at (818) 909-3529.
