Noise Management > Noise Management FAQs

Q: How do I register my comments regarding airport noise?

A: You may call (909) 937-2719, 24 hours a day. Please provide the time the aircraft flew over, the direction the aircraft was headed, and if possible, the type of aircraft and airline (or color scheme).

Q: Are there any meetings I can attend to find out more about the airport noise program?

A: Quarterly meetings of the Ontario Airport Noise Advisory Committee are held at the airport. Meeting schedules will be posted on this website.

Q: What is the airport doing to lessen the impact of aircraft noise on the surrounding community?

A: The airport's noise program is discussed on this website in the section entitled "Variance" and in the section "Noise Management Program".

Q: Why do the planes sometimes fly over the north side of Ontario?

A: During Santa Ana wind conditions (or whenever the winds are from the east), aircraft landing at ONT will land to the east. If the aircraft is arriving from Northern California, the pattern the aircraft flies is north of the airport.

Q: What is the airport doing to lessen noise in the evening?

A: Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., depending on wind condition, aircraft takes off to the east while still landing to the west. This is called contra-flow. The airport does not allow any high power engine maintenance runs between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Q: Why don't the aircraft fly the routes they are supposed to fly when leaving the airport?

A: FAA Air Traffic Control will occasionally instruct the pilot to fly a different route to ensure the aircraft remains a safe distance from other aircraft in the area.

Q: If I live within a certain noisy area, do I qualify for relocation or house insulation against noise?

A: The City of Ontario Housing Department manages the Home Acquisition and Insulation Program, which is co-funded by the FAA and LAWA. This office can be reached at (909) 395-2006.
