Over 1,200 Students Explore Aviation Careers at VNY

On May 19, Van Nuys Airport welcomed more than 1,200 LAUSD students and 40 aviation-related organizations for the 12th Annual “The Sky’s the Limit: Aviation Career Day” event, which helps introduce youth to the broad career opportunities in the aviation industry.

This event – which was hosted by Los Angeles City Councilmember Nury Martinez, Van Nuys Airport and Clay Lacy Aviation – also featured a panel of industry professionals that gave insight on how to enter a career in aviation, providing insider tips and knowledge based on personal and work-related experiences. This panel was led by Curt Castagna, President and CEO of Aeroplex/Aerolease Group and featured guest speakers from businesses and organizations including Clay Lacy Aviation, Tron Air, Signature Flight Support, Avalon Capital Group, Mach 1 Aviation, Duncan Avionics and VNY. Commissioner Jeffery Daar, Los Angeles World Airports Board of Airport Commissioners commented on the importance of “…showing the students the vast number of opportunities in the field of aviation,” and stressed the importance of cultivating interest in aviation-related careers.

Participating students were also provided a behind-the-scenes tour of VNY, took part in interactive exhibits and viewed several aircraft displays that included an F-18, a Condor Squadron AT-6 and the Los Angeles Fire Department Air Rescue Unit and valuable networking opportunities.
