About

The modernization of Terminal 6 includes a complete overhaul of the facilities gate areas and lounges, the addition of two new gates, the replacement of old passenger boarding bridges, and other improvements designed to deliver an incredible guest experience. The project, which began construction in 2021, is expected to be completed by early 2025.

Improvements within the terminal includes the enlargement of three gate area holdrooms, as well as renovations taking place in all other gate areas to create a cohesive look throughout the space. Guests will also enjoy easier access to the terminal's U.S. Customs and Border Protection Federal Inspection Station (FIS) as well as a drive-through bus gate, which will provide better access for guests transferring to or from other terminals.

Airside improvements include new apron paving, fuel lines, a new fire hydrant system, charging equipment for zero-emission ground support equipment and other airfield infrastructure.

This work is in addition to the concurrent construction of a Terminal Vertical Core serving Terminals 5 and 6, which will connect them to the future Automated People Mover train system.

The original Terminal 6 satellite was built in 1961 along with many of the current LAX Central Terminal Area facilities. A second-level concourse with four gates was added to Terminal 6 in the mid-1980s, and two projects totaling $318.5 million were completed between 2012 and 2016 to renovate the baggage claim area and ticketing lobby, as well as update and expand concessions space.
