VAN NUYS AIRPORT’S AWARD-WINNING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OFFERS FREE TOURS TO STUDENTS OF ALL AGES
(Los Angeles, CA- September 20, 2000) Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) educational program features an enjoyable and informative tour of the world’s busiest general aviation airport. As classes resume for the fall, students of all ages have an opportunity to get an inside look at the multifaceted world of aviation.
The VNY tours, which run about 90 minutes on large-capacity, air-conditioned buses, are available free to school, civic and community organizations by reservation on weekdays and select Saturdays. Tours are for groups of 15 or more, ages first grade and up. Located on 730 acres and featuring over 700 aircraft, VNY offers a rich learning experience about aviation and the airport’s value to the community.
A special feature is the airport’s colorful mascot, Vinny, the first kid-friendly educational airplane. Designed to be airborne, Vinny is completely accessible and a hands-on experience for children. Airports Council International, the world’s leading airport organization, recently ranked VNY’s educational program among the top three in the nation.
For those San Fernando Valley groups unable to come to the airport, the airport will come to them by way of free slide shows. To make reservations for a tour or slide show, call VNY Public Affairs at (818) 909-3529, extension 214.
