LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS ANNOUNCES AVIATION PROGRAM FOR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS

LOS ANGELES (June 7, 2000) - Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) will host a FREE, weeklong educational program for seventh and eighth-grade students to provide an introduction to the field of aviation. The Junior Aviation Career Education "ACE" Academy takes place July 31 through August 4.

The program provides participants with a basic understanding of career opportunities within the aviation industry, as well as general knowledge about LAWA. Students receive facility tours including the airfield and airport police, and presentations conducted by airport employees and vendors. The students will also spend a day with Southwest Airlines and the Federal Aviation and Administration.

"We are extremely excited about providing students with the opportunity to learn more about the aviation industry," said Dr. Warren Valdry, a member of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners and an educator. LAWA Executive Director Lydia Kennard said, "It is important that students become exposed to the many career options that exist in aviation."

The program is open to all Los Angeles area seventh and eighth grade students in areas surrounding Los Angeles International Airport, including El Seguendo, Westchester, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Venice, and Los Angeles. For more information, please contact Diana Sanchez at the LAWA Public Affairs Bureau at (310) 646- 5260 or via e-mail at dsanchez@airports.ci.la.ca.us.
