HAMADA ORIENT EXPRESS AND LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS POSSESS INGREDIENTS FOR PROSPEROUS PARTNERSHIP

(Los Angeles – May 25, 2000) A unique blend of exotic Asian flavors is one way to describe the cuisine offered by Hamada Orient Express, located in the food court at the Tom Bradley International Terminal of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Owned by Jay Hamada, the Hamada Orient Express is a fast food restaurant, that provides quality Japanese and Chinese delicacies, for the hurried traveler looking for more than fast food. Emigrating from Japan 35 years ago, Hamada first went to Las Vegas, and worked as a choreographer and dancer. As a dancer and choreographer, Hamada appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. However, work was not steady, and he worked various jobs in between at local restaurants. With a desire to own his own business, he established a tour service for Japanese visitors who traveled to Las Vegas. Hamada’s dream of one day opening his own restaurant, came true in 1987, when he opened Hamada of Japan with his late wife, June Hamada. Today, Hamada owns and operates a total of 10 restaurants. His daughter, Bernice Sadamune, functions as Hamada Orient Express Executive Director. This LAX based restaurant has the distinction of being the only restaurant in the chain, located outside of Las Vegas. It was Hiroshi Moroto, who is not only his Los Angeles business partner, but also a close friend, that pitched the idea of working with the Los Angeles World Airports to Hamada. "We have been in partnership with LAWA since November of 1996," stated Sadamune. "It has been a great relationship, and I have been very impressed with LAWA’s embracement of the city’s diversity by establishing the Minority Vendors Program." Located in one of the busiest terminals at LAX, Hamada has found a unique niche by offering both Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Sadamune, a resident of Westchester, believes that the ingredient to success has been the ability to offer travelers more than just fast food. "Where else can you find exotic food on the go that is also healthy," said Sadamune. "We see travelers from all over, and are able to offer them a meal that fits into their hectic schedule, that also provides a stimulating experience for their palate."
