BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS AUTHORIZES LAWA TO ACCEPT SCAQMD FUNDS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS
(Los Angeles, CA – February 1, 2000) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today authorized Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to accept an award of $64,200 from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to install 12 electric vehicle charging stations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The charging stations will be installed in LAX’s new Parking Structure 6, which is scheduled for completion in July 2000. Under the contract with the SCAQMD, LAWA is obligated to complete the charging stations by November 5, 2000.
These 12 new charging stations will combine with the 10 existing charging stations in Parking Structure 1 for a total of 22 in LAX’s Central Terminal Area. LAX also offers a charging station in long-term Parking Lot C. All electric vehicle slots are free for recharging and parking.
In a related item, the Board awarded a contract to Miracle Ford for the purchase of seven vehicles powered by clean-burning compressed natural gas. LAX Airport Police Bureau will use vehicles.
