LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS PRESENTS "CAREERS IN AVIATION" TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, COUNSELORS

(Los Angeles, California – March 29, 2001) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the Association of Aviation Industry Resources (AIR) are hosting "Careers in Aviation" on Thursday, April 5, 2001. The event takes place at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no fee to participate, but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided.

The day includes demonstrations, displays and career exhibitions by AIR members, as well as a tour of LAX. AIR, an organization of educational, governmental and industry individuals who work in aviation, seeks to introduce high school counselors and students to aviation careers and programs. Participating members include LAWA, The Boeing Co., Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Express, Long Beach City College, U.S. Coast Guard, and West Los Angeles Community College.

"This event allows us the opportunity to present career options in aviation to high school students as they prepare for college," says David Johnson, LAWA Jobs Opportunities Manager and AIR chairman. "There are many aviation programs available that provide students with practical experience in the aviation field and it is imperative that our students are made aware of these opportunities."

Guest speakers for "Careers in Aviation" include Imani Brown, chief deputy for U.S. Congresswoman Juanita Millendar-McDonald; Dr. Warren Valdry, member of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners; Lydia Kennard, LAWA executive director; and William Withycombe, Western-Pacific Regional Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration.
