BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS ENDORSE CURRENT SECURITY MEASURES AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT; WILL REVIEW ISSUE OCTOBER 2

(Los Angeles, California -- September 25, 2001) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners voted unanimously (6-0) to endorse as "prudent and necessary" all the security measures being taken at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at this time. This action was taken after the commissioners received a 35-minute confidential security briefing by the LAX airport police chief and local and federal law enforcement officials.

The Board also directed Airport Police Chief Bernard J. Wilson and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) staff to report back to the Board no later than October 2, 2001, on the security issues related to alternatives in re-opening the Central Terminal Area roadways and parking structures to private vehicles. Until October 2, the Board further directed airport staff to take whatever safety and security measures it deems necessary.
