ADVICE FOR TRAVELERS USING LAX

(Los Angeles, CA – September 15, 2001) With Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) expecting to operate at 45 percent flight capacity on Saturday and 55 to 60 percent on Sunday, officials today are asking passengers to observe the following travel advice:

  • Do not bring knives, scissors, etc., of any length or type to the airport. They will be confiscated at the security checkpoint.
  • Airlines are requesting that passengers reduce size and number of bags to expedite the screening process.
  • Do not attempt to drive private vehicles into the airport. Travelers should use commercial transportation such as taxis, door-to-door shuttles, Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) buses and rail, Flyaway and other direct-to-airport buses and commercial limousines. Courtesy vehicles from hotels, rental car agencies and privately-operated lots are permitted to enter the airport. Due to demand at the Flyaway parking lots, travelers are urged to be dropped off rather than attempting to park. The Flyaway is located in Van Nuys at the intersection of Woodley and Saticoy.
  • Passengers who wish to be dropped off may use Lot B (111 Street and La Cienega Blvd.) or Lot C (96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd.). Meeters and greeters are allowed to park in Lots B or C and take the courtesy bus into the airport to meet their party at the baggage claim area.
  • Passengers should check with their domestic or international airlines before coming to the airport to board an aircraft.
