PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR LAX MASTER PLAN ARE CANCELLED FOLLOWING SEPT. 11 TERRORIST ATTACKS ON UNITED STATES

(Los Angeles, California – September 14, 2001) The remaining public hearings set for Sept. 15 and 19-20 for the LAX Master Plan have been cancelled following the terrorists attacks on the United States.

Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Lydia Kennard today announced the cancellation of the community meetings. "Our only priority is ensuring the safety and security of the operations of LAWA’s four airports for the traveling public. This effort will require the redeployment of a significant amount of our resources in the coming weeks, so I have directed the LAWA staff to place the highest priority on safety and security."

Kennard said the decision to extend the current comment period past Sept. 24 for the LAX Master Plan as well as any dates for additional hearings is under review. No new dates for the cancelled hearings have been set.

LAX Master Plan hearings were set to begin Tuesday, Sept. 11 and run through Sept. 20 at various locations throughout Los Angeles and in Palmdale and Ontario.
