LAWA’S LYDIA KENNARD RECOGNIZED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

 

(Los Angeles, California – February 27, 2002) Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Lydia H. Kennard was recognized today as a distinguished honoree of the Allstate Insurance Co.’s From Whence We Came Black History Initiative.

Dennis Odums, community relations manager for the insurance company, said individuals selected for the award have strengthened their community through their positive impact and serve as everyday heroes. Allstate makes the award as part of Black History Month in communities across the nation. Today’s honor was presented at ceremonies at the University of Southern California.

Kennard joined LAWA in 1994 as deputy executive director of engineering, facilities design and construction, and was named executive director in 2000. LAWA is comprised of four airports: Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Van Nuys and Palmdale Regional.

Prior to joining the aviation industry, she practiced real estate and construction law and was the president/principal-in-charge of a firm specializing in land use planning, development, programming and construction management for private and public sector clients.

She also served as a member of the Los Angeles Planning Commission.
