CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING

(Los Angeles, California – June 4, 2003)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a $1,098,000 contract to AMD Construction Group, Inc., of Orange, Calif., for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  The contract will cover sound-insulation modifications on 71 multi-family residences located in Westchester and Playa del Rey within the noise-impacted area of Los Angeles City Council District 11.

This contract award brings the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction to 3,131.  The residences will be outfitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing improvements.

LAX's noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau.  A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Soundproofed model homes in Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles are open to visitors by appointment.  Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
