AIRPORT INDUSTRY GROUP HONORS LAWA MARKETING/COMMUNICATIONS
(Los Angeles, CA – August 13, 2004) The nation’s airport industry trade group – Airports Council International – North America -- recognized the marketing and communications efforts of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) as among the nation’s best when it announced the winners of its annual Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest for 2004.
Contest judges, who are marketing and communications professionals themselves, selected LAWA’s Aerogramme newsletter for its 2,500 employees as the best internal publication among the nation’s airports. The monthly newsletter’s editor keeps employees at four airports informed using a print and electronic Intranet version of the publication.
LAWA's staff at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) combined a 1971 hit song, LA International Airport, with a new version promoting the contributions of the airport to win second place nationally in the Creative Innovations - Promotions Category. Both songs can be heard on LAWA's website at: http://www.lawa.org/75thAnniv/75thSong.html. The songs played a prominent role in the airport's year-long 75th anniversary celebration in 2003. LAX is the only airport to have a hit song, named "The Official Song of LAX" by City proclamation in August 2003.
LAWA's year-long salute to its 75 years of aviation history earned an Honorable Mention for airport Public Relations Campaigns. Airport staff conducted a multi-faceted, year-long public relations campaign in 2003. It featured the opening of a new aviation museum, screening of the silent movie classic "Wings", release of a song on a compact disk, Van Nuys Airport's Aviation Expo, hosting an industry conference, and a Centennial of Flight and Customer Appreciation Day.
Los Angeles World Airports is a City department that owns and operates a system of four airports in Southern California: Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Van Nuys and Palmdale Regional.
