LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS AWARDS CONTRACTS FOR MORE RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING IN COUNCIL DISTRICTS 8 AND 11
(Los Angeles, California -- August 2, 2004) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded two contracts for residential soundproofing on homes in Los Angeles Council Districts 8 and 11.
Harry H. Joh Construction, Inc. of Anaheim, Calif., was awarded a $1,440,000 contract for sound-insulation modifications on 46 dwelling units located within the noise-impacted area in Council District 8. This contract includes 38 single-family dwellings and two four-unit buildings.
Professional Building Contractors, Inc. of El Segundo, Calif., was awarded a $1,339,200 contract for sound-insulation modifications on 68 dwelling units located within the noise-impacted area in Council District 11. This contract includes 33 single-family dwellings; five duplexes; two five-unit, one four-unit, and one seven-unit buildings in Westchester and Playa del Rey.
This contract award brings the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction to 3,967. The residences will be retrofitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing modifications.
The noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.
The program is administered by Los Angeles World Airports' Residential Soundproofing Program. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
