LOS ANGELES AIRPORT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING
(Los Angeles, California – May 10, 2004) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded Professional Building Contractors, Inc. (PBC) of El Segundo, California, a contract for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $969,500 contract will cover sound-insulation modifications on 55 dwelling units located within the noise-impacted area in Council District 11. This bid package includes units in the Chateau Delgany Estates condominium complex in Playa del Rey, as well as single-family and multi-family dwellings in Westchester and Playa del Rey.
This contract award brings the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction to 3,752. The residences will be retrofitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing modifications.
The noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.
The program is administered by Los Angeles World Airports’ Residential Soundproofing Program. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
