LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS ANNOUNCES INTERIM ETHICS OFFICER TO HEAD AGENCY’S NEW ETHICS AND BUSINESS CONDUCT OFFICE
(Los Angeles, California -- November 7, 2005) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today announced the interim appointment of Barbara Yamamoto as ethics officer to head the agency’s first Office of Ethics and Business Conduct.
The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners unanimously voted Oct. 17, 2005, to create the office, which will report to LAWA Executive Director Lydia H. Kennard and a committee of the board. The new high-level office will serve as a third-party, independent resource for information, advice and resolution of problems and issues.
"As employees of Los Angeles World Airports, we are public servants to the citizens of Los Angeles. As such, we must commit ourselves to a standard of business conduct that maintains and earns the public’s trust in government," said Kennard.
"I believe Barbara is an ideal person to take on this assignment. She is well known in the department and throughout the community as a person of high integrity and someone worthy of our trust and confidence. Her broad work background and experience make her ideally suited for this crucial position," Kennard added.
Yamamoto’s career spans 18 years in the public affairs and government relations fields at all three City of Los Angeles proprietary departments – Water and Power, Harbor and Airports – in addition to several years in the private sector.
She has served the last five years as LAX Community Relations Director where she has been credited with establishing LAWA’s first Community Relations Division. Through her leadership, the Community Relations team has expanded to include a number of new programs and initiatives to help LAWA improve relations with its neighboring communities and to create a positive image of the City agency.
She was recently selected as Honorary Mayor of the Westchester/LAX–Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her Chamber activities, she has also served on the boards of the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa del Rey; Gateway to LA Property Business Improvement District; Westchester Family YMCA; and the Westchester Rotary Club.
