PALMDALE REGIONAL AIRPORT TO HOST "SALUTE TO YOUTH" SPECIAL EVENT AT SITE 9 FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

 

WHAT:

Palmdale Regional Airport (PMD) will host a major event at Site 9 for approximately 1,600 high school students from the Antelope Valley. The purpose of the event is to introduce students who are ready to enter the workforce to careers in the aviation and aerospace industries, and the U.S. military. The Antelope Valley High School District, major aerospace contractors, military recruiters, and local civic groups and businesses are scheduled to participate.

The event will feature career exhibit booths, static aircraft displays (F-117, F-18, F-16, T-38, Army UH1U, Maine H-53), and one-on-one discussions with aviation/aerospace industry experts and other career field experts.

PMD is located in the Antelope Valley, in the northeast portion of the city of Palmdale, on a 60-acre site on United States Air Force Plant 42. The airport features a modern 9,000 square-foot terminal capable of handling up to 300,000 passengers annually. Scenic Airlines offers daily service to Las Vegas.

PMD is one of four airports owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a City of Los Angeles department. The other three are Los Angeles International, Ontario International and Van Nuys.

WHO:

Officials from LAWA, cities of Palmdale and Lancaster, Air Force Plant 42, Edwards Air Force Base, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and U.S. military organizations.
