LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS TO PURCHASE ALTERNATIVE-FUEL VEHICLES FOR LAX AND ONT

(Los Angeles, California – April 4, 2005) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a $374,447 contract to LLL Sales Company LLC, Inc., DBA Gardena Honda, for the purchase of 17 compact sedans that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) for use at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ontario International Airport (ONT).

Fourteen of the new vehicles will replace similar units that have reached the end of their useful life as a part of Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA’s) ongoing vehicle replacement schedule. The remaining three are additional vehicles that will be used by the LAX Residential Soundproofing Division and the Construction and Maintenance Divisions at LAX and ONT.

LAWA is committed to identifying and replacing fossil-fuel vehicles and equipment with alternative-fuel models. LAWA currently operates over 400 alternative-fuel vehicles in its fleet. Alternative fuels include liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG), electricity, solar power and hydrogen fuel cell.

Los Angeles World Airports is a City of Los Angeles department that owns and operates four facilities: LAX, ONT, Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys Airports.
