LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/18/2005 -- Los Angeles World Airport is excited to volunteer to make a dream come true for Mabel Diaz. Team LAWA -- Los Angeles World Airports' employee volunteer brigade -- is gearing up to participate for the first time in the United We Paint project in Inglewood.

"This is an excellent opportunity for us to give back to our neighbors to the east of the airport," said Diana Sanchez, Community Relations Representative and manager of Team LAWA. "We are always looking for ways to help out in our surrounding airport communities and this United We Paint project is a perfect opportunity to make a contribution to our community in a fun and meaningful way."

Team LAWA is a program of the LAX Community Relations Division, which is designed to support airport neighborhoods in ways that reflect the LAX commitment to balancing the need for regional economic growth with the needs of local communities.

"We are committed to being good neighbors and are proud to offer beneficial programs, services and opportunities as involved members of our airport communities," added Sanchez.

More than 25 volunteers are coming together this Saturday from Los Angeles World Airports to paint the home of Mabel Diaz, a low-income senior facing the struggles of everyday life. The effort is part of the United We Paint Coalition's goal of beautifying more than 150 sites throughout Southern California. Mabel Diaz lives on a very limited income. She is legally blind, has diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis. Mabel's husband passed away last year and she had to quit her job and go on disability because she is not able to see perfectly any longer because of the diabetes.

The home is more than 50 years old and has not been painted in more than 20 years. Mabel helps all she can by making homemade tortillas and gives them as gifts during the holidays. She also loves to crochet and make lap blankets for children and the elderly.

Hundreds of families were nominated throughout Southern California to have their home painted free, and from those, a local advisory board selected homes to paint along with schools & community buildings.

Many of these senior homeowners live alone and have no family to help. Many are suffering from disabilities and illnesses, and all of them are living on minimal incomes that don't allow them to spend money on home repair.

Each home will be adopted by one of the affiliated associations, organizations or companies that make up the United We Paint Coalition.

The volunteer effort begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday, November 19th.
