SIXTH SET OF PUBLIC OUTREACH MEETINGS FOR LAX MASTER PLAN SPECIFIC PLAN AMENDMENT STUDY SET FOR OCTOBER 25 AND 28

(Los Angeles, California – October 18, 2006) Two outreach meetings will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, for the public to participate in the LAX Master Plan Specific Plan Amendment Study. This is the sixth set of meetings of a community-based planning process for the modernization of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Two meetings are scheduled for the public's convenience, but the information to be presented will be the same at both the Wednesday and Saturday meetings. At the request of the offices of Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl (11th District), Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn and El Segundo Mayor Kelly McDowell, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is revising the content of this sixth set of community meetings to discuss airfield safety, an important and complicated issue. Airport officials understand that the public has a broad interest in learning more about airfield safety in general, and the nature and composition of runway incursions in particular. During these public meetings, the Federal Aviation Administration and LAWA will provide a detailed presentation on safety issues on both the north and south airfields. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions of these experts at the meetings.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second meeting will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Both meetings will be conducted at the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Boulevard, Los Angeles. Free parking is available on site.

These meetings are part of the process toward implementing the recent settlement of lawsuits filed against the LAX Master Plan. The LAX Specific Plan Amendment Study was one of the conditions of the settlement that called for the creation of a prompt, community-based planning process to revisit and potentially replace controversial "yellow light" projects, such as the Manchester Square Ground Transportation Center, with alternative projects that increase airport efficiency and mitigate traffic, noise and pollution.

The study will consist of a series of public planning meetings followed by a formal environmental review process.
