NAMES KAREN TOZER CONCESSIONS MANAGER
(Los Angeles, California – Sept. 15, 2006) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has announced the appointment of Karen Tozer as Concessions Manager of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), one of the world’s busiest and most successful airport authorities. Her responsibilities include the oversight and management of all concessions operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). She has served in an interim capacity since March 2005.
Tozer joined LAWA in September 2000. She assumed the role of cargo property manager, overseeing the real estate operations for LAX’s 2.1 million square feet of space in 28 cargo buildings. She also served as senior staff to the Chief Operating Officer for more than three years, primarily as the liaison for LAWA’s business development and revenue divisions.
Prior to joining the LAWA staff, she served more than nine years as a marketing manager for the Port of Los Angeles, promoting use of all major Port facilities, including large container, dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulk and omni terminals. Tozer also served as the cruise manager, coordinating the Port’s marketing efforts with those of major cruise ship lines and travel agents to make Los Angeles the busiest cruise passenger complex on the U.S. West Coast, serving more than one million passengers annually.
In 1994, under Tozer’s guidance through the complex application and approval process, the Port attained its designation as Foreign-Trade Zone No. 202 (FTZ 202). The foreign-trade zone enhances the City’s ability to promote international business, boost local industry and create new jobs through the active use of the many FTZ 202 facilities.
During 1998, Tozer was appointed as the first director of international trade in the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development where she was charged with establishing marketing strategies to promote expanding global trade opportunities for economic enterprises in Los Angeles. In this temporary assignment she utilized major resources such as the World Trade Center, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the California State Trade and Commerce Agency to accomplish these goals.
Before her employment with the City of Los Angeles, Tozer served as the California division manager for Total Logistics Resource; sales and marketing manager in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Portland for EAC Transport; marketing and sales manager in Portland for General Steamship Corp.; assistant vice president for Seaport Shipping Co., and district manager for Williams Exporters.
A licensed U.S. Customs Broker, Tozer is active in various civic and professional organizations, including the Foreign Trade Association of Southern California, World Trade Center and Women in International Trade.
She also has transferred her extensive work expertise into the academic arena, teaching global logistics classes for several schools and organizations.
