LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS RELEASES REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS FUEL STATION AT ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Ontario, California (August 28, 2006) --- Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel Station at Ontario International Airport (ONT). The proposed station will promote efficient and convenient use of clean fuel for vehicles operated by ONT and its tenants. The public will also have access to the on-airport station which will be close to local streets, highways and freeways, and open 24 hours a day.

"This is a progressive move for ONT, which is in keeping with LAWA’s ‘green airport’ program," said Jess Romo, ONT’s manager. "LAWA is committed to projects that reduce air emissions in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area including San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Since passenger traffic at ONT is growing steadily, along with the area’s population growth, timely initiation of the program is essential."

ONT currently has a fleet of 45 Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV), 14 of which are CNG vehicles. ONT could potentially acquire 18 more CNG vehicles (replacement or new), mainly light-duty trucks. The airport’s growing fleet needs convenient and efficient refueling capability on-site since its existing AFV’s use private, off-airport fueling stations. These remote locations, ranging from two to ten miles from the airport, are inconvenient for ONT AFV users and are often unavailable without notice. The proposed station, to be located on the north side of the airport, will also service existing and future needs of commercial ground transportation vehicles such as taxis and shared ride vans.

"With the exception of fuel purchased by the airport, construction and maintenance of the CNG station will not result in any direct costs to ONT," said Romo. "ONT may also generate revenue from royalties offered by the successful proposer, but that won’t be known until proposals are submitted. The most important point is that a modern, clean, and fast-fill CNG station at ONT will promote the use of a cleaner alternative fuel for the airport and local communities," said Romo.

ONT is located in the City of Ontario, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is one of four airports owned and operated by LAWA, a Los Angeles City department that oversees an airport system in the nation’s second largest metropolitan area. The other airports owned and operated by LAWA are Los Angeles International, Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys.
