CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – December 4, 2006) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to DAB Construction, Inc., Tarzana, Calif., for a portion of the LAX Residential Soundproofing Program. The contract totaling $795,300 covers sound-insulation modifications on 36 dwelling units comprised of 20 condominium units, one 10-unit apartment, one duplex, and four single-family dwellings located in Los Angeles City Council District 11.

The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes more than 8,200 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher. Contractors install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic baffles, fireplace doors and dampers, insulation, and ventilation and air-conditioning systems to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The combined 36 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of total units to date, either completed or under construction, to 5,270. The remaining 2,930 units are either in the design phase, awaiting design commencement, have not responded, or have declined to participate in the program.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Blvd. in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
