LAWA SCHEDULES MEETINGS TO DISCUSS THREE REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS WITH PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS

(Los Angeles, California – November 9, 2007)  Los Angeles World Airports will conduct two meetings on Tuesday, Nov. 13 to invite interested companies to participate in three pre-proposal briefings for program management services and for architectural and engineering services.

The pre-proposal meeting for program management services for all capital projects at LAX will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the pre-proposal meetings for architectural services and for engineering services for LAX’s Midfield Satellite Concourse Project and related projects will be combined and explained at the 2 p.m. session.   All meetings will be held at the Proud Bird restaurant, located at 11022 Aviation Blvd., in Los Angeles.

LAX is embarking on the largest capital improvement program since the construction of its Tom Bradley International Terminal and second level roadway in preparation for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.  In total, projects included in LAX’s capital improvement program over the next 10 years are estimated to amount to between $5 billion to $8 billion.

Services to be provided for under the program management contract include development of program/project requirements, bid packaging, contract development and related negotiations, financial planning, program planning/phasing/scheduling, project controls and    construction management. Other services will include pre-design, logistics and support, planning management, design and engineering management, project close-out and contract administration.

At the 2 p.m. meeting, two pre-proposal briefings will be conducted, one for architectural services and the other for engineering services for the LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse Project, the Tom Bradley International Terminal Expansion and related projects.

Completion of these projects will provide LAX with gates that will accommodate the new, larger aircraft presently on order by 20 of the carriers serving LAX travelers.

The architectural services being requested include planning, architectural, specialty and engineering design.   Engineering services include civil, structural, acoustical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, geotechnical and communication for tunnel engineering, airfield engineering, centralized utility plant design, people mover systems and other specialty engineering services.

Los Angeles World Airports, the City Department that owns and operates LAX, must provide these modernized facilities to accommodate the future fleet mix of aircraft or run the risk of losing this business and its associated economic benefits to the Southern California region.

LAWA will be using the latest available technology in these projects in order to create an environment that further enhances the safety, security, communications and operations of staff, tenants, travelers and visitors at its airports.

Companies desiring to send representatives to the meeting should call LAWA’s Business and Job Resources Division at (310) 342-1426 with their contact information, or via e-mail at businessresource@lawa.org.
