RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING CONTRACT AWARDED FOR WORK NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – December 17, 2007)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to Harry H. Joh Construction, Inc., of Los Angeles for a portion of the LAX Residential Soundproofing Program.  The $1,881,000 contract covers sound-insulation modifications on 63 dwelling units consisting of 18 single-family dwellings, one 10-unit apartment, three 3-unit apartments and one 26-unit apartment located in Los Angeles City Council District 8.

The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes more than 8,200 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Level  (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.  Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The 63 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of total units either completed or under construction, and approved by the Board to 6,016.  The remaining 2,184 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or have declined to participate in the program.
