TRAFFIC ADVISORY: WATER MAIN BREAK AT SEPULVEDA AND CENTURY BOULEVARDS DIVERTING TRAFFIC NEAR LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

(Los Angeles, California – October 16, 2007) A traffic detour is in effect until further notice for northbound Sepulveda Blvd. at Imperial Highway near the entrance to Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) due to a water main break reported shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Police and traffic officers are diverting northbound Sepulveda Blvd. traffic ONLY at Imperial Highway to eastbound Imperial Highway to Aviation Blvd. to Century Blvd. to reach LAX or areas north of the airport. Motorists can also drive westbound Imperial Highway to Pershing Drive to Westchester Parkway to Lincoln Blvd. to southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to enter LAX.

Airport officials advise motorists that the traffic situation is subject to change. At this point in time, westbound I-105 to northbound Sepulveda Blvd. exit, westbound Century Boulevard, and southbound Sepulveda Boulevard entrances to LAX are all open. It is anticipated that the northbound Sepulveda Blvd. exit of the westbound I-105 Freeway will close while repairs are underway. The alternate route for motorists using westbound I-105 is to go around the west end of the airport by continuing onto Imperial Highway to Pershing Drive to Westchester Parkway to Lincoln Boulevard to southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to enter the airport.

Airport officials recommend that motorists using southbound I-405 San Diego Freeway exit at Howard Hughes Parkway and use southbound Sepulveda Blvd.

To reduce the number of vehicles heading to the LAX passenger terminal area, airport officials also recommend that passengers be dropped off at LAX Parking Lots B and C and take the free airport shuttle buses to the terminals.

Parking Lot C is located at 96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd. Parking Lot B is located at 111th Street and La Cienega Blvd.

The break is located under the northbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard near the intersection with Little Century Boulevard (a two-lane road that splits from westbound Century Boulevard located in front of the Radisson Hotel).

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power work crews are on-site investigating the break and making repairs.
