WATER MAIN BREAK REPAIR AT SEPULVEDA AND CENTURY BOULEVARDS

REQUIRES TRAFFIC DETOUR  NEAR LOSANGELESINTERNATIONALAIRPORT

(Los Angeles, California – October 16, 2007)  Traffic into and out of Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) is flowing smoothly during Tuesday evening rush hour while a traffic detour is in effect for northbound Sepulveda Blvd. at Imperial Highway near the airport.  The detour is due to a water main break that occurred on Tuesday morning at the intersection of Century and Sepulveda Boulevards. According to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials at the scene, repairs to the break and street restoration are expected to be completed about noon Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Police and traffic officers are diverting northbound Sepulveda Blvd. traffic ONLY at Imperial Highway to eastbound Imperial Highway to northbound Aviation Blvd. to westbound Century Blvd. to reach LAX or areas north of the airport. Motorists can also drive westbound on Imperial Highway to northbound Pershing Drive to eastbound Westchester Parkway to eastbound Lincoln Blvd. to southboundSepulveda Blvd. to enter LAX.

The main entrances to LAX’s passenger terminal area remain open:  (1) Westbound I-105 to northbound Sepulveda Blvd. exit, (2) westbound Century Boulevard, and (3) southbound Sepulveda Blvd.

Airport officials recommend motorists using southbound I-405 San Diego Freeway exit at Howard Hughes Parkway and use southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to reach LAX.

To reduce the number of vehicles heading to the LAX passenger terminal area, airport officials also recommend that passengers be dropped off at LAX Parking Lots B and C and take the free airport shuttle buses to the terminals.  Parking Lot C is located at 96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd.  Parking Lot B is located at 111th Streetand La Cienega Blvd.

Airport officials report that the traffic detours have had no impact on flight operations, which have been normal today.

The break is located under the northbound lanes of Sepulveda Blvd. 100 feet south of the intersection with Little Century Boulevard (a two-lane road that splits from westbound Century Boulevard located in front of the Radisson Hotel).
