SAMSUNG AND LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO GIVE TRAVELERS A POWER BOOST WITH NEW CHARGING STATIONS FOR PORTABLE ELECTRONICS
More than 50 Electrical Charging Stations Installed in Terminals
Improve Customer Service, Provide Convenience
(Los Angeles, California – July 18, 2007) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Samsung Mobile (a division of Samsung Telecommunications America) and airport advertising contractor JCDecaux today launched charging stations in all terminals at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), allowing travelers the convenience of free electrical re-charging of their mobile phones, laptops and other personal electronics.
Fifty-one 8-1/2-foot-tall, pole-like charging stations have been installed throughout the boarding areas in Terminals 1 through 8 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The Samsung Mobile Charging Stations have four outlets per station, allowing multiple travelers to re-charge their electronic devices. They are designed to re-charge personal electronics designed for U.S. voltage (i.e., 120 volts). The electrical re-charging stations are designed with a small shelf to hold electronic equipment.
“As the number of personal electronic equipment has exploded during the past few years, both business and leisure travelers have requested more electrical outlets in our boarding gate areas to recharge equipment while awaiting their flight departures,” said Patricia Tubert, LAWA Deputy Executive Director of Real Estate and Economic Development.
“This new service is part of our continued commitment to implementing customer service initiatives to meet travelers’ needs.”
“If you look around a crowded plane now, you see more travelers with laptops and other personal electronic devices than a decade ago,” said Pete Skarzynski, Samsung Mobile senior vice president. “To celebrate Samsung’s 10th anniversary, we are sponsoring the Samsung Mobile Charging Stations for travelers’ use at LAX free of charge.”
Samsung Telecommunications America is sponsoring the new service as part of the airport’s in-terminal advertising program. LAWA is providing the electricity for the charging stations.
"JCDecaux designed and produced the concept of the Samsung Mobile Charging Stations which will provide a unique service to over 60 million travelers annually at LAX, as well as valuable brand exposure for Samsung. This is the first of many marketing, sponsorship and advertising initiatives available in this venue,” said Jean-Luc Decaux, Co-CEO of JCDecaux NA, Inc.
