VAN NUYS AIRPORT’S HOME SOUNDPROOFING PROCESS CONTINUES

(Van Nuys, Calif.) - Van Nuys Airport (VNY) is currently installing residential soundproofing insulation as part of its ongoing commitment to mitigate the effects of airport-related noise in neighborhoods immediately adjacent to the airport. AMD Construction, the construction company that will actually install the improvements, is currently mobilizing and placing storage containers in the area until Jan. 7, 2007, when the two-month construction period is slated to commence.

Approximately 20 dwellings, the vast majority of which are condominiums onDe Celis Place, are slated for the improvements, which feature insulation of windows, doors and fireplaces.

The VNY soundproofing program officially began in April 2000 and is part of a larger program initiated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) in connection with local Los Angeles City Council offices. The program covers residential buildings in areas of the city with a recorded Noise Equivalent Level of 65 decibels and higher. Nearly 1,100 residences in Van Nuys are eligible for the improvements. To date, 750 homeowners have signed up for the Van Nuys Airport’s Home Soundproofing Process Continues improvements, out of which 600 have already undergone construction. VNY is one of four airports owned and operated by LAWA, a self-supporting branch of the City of Los Angeles, governed by a seven-member Board of Airport Commissioners who are appointed by the mayor and approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
