LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL CONFIRMS GINA MARIE LINDSEY AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS

 

(Los Angeles, California – May 30, 2007)  The Los Angeles City Council today voted unanimously to confirm the appointment of Gina Marie Lindsey as executive director of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

            Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Lindsey’s appointment to the post May 10, following her unanimous approval by the Board of Airport Commissioners.  Her appointment was considered Tuesday by the City Council’s Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee, which voted to recommend her appointment to the full City Council.

            In appointing Lindsey, Mayor Villaraigosa said, “In searching for a new executive director, we knew we needed someone with experience, with the ability to build bridges and with a vision for moving the area’s airports forward. We have found the perfect candidate in Gina Marie Lindsey.”

            Lindsey brings 16 years of experience in airport management and a record of success in renovating and expanding international airports. One of her first responsibilities is continuing the modernization and regionalization efforts among LAWA’s airports and initiatives to update airport services.

            Lindsey is the 12th executive director in the 79-year history of the city’s airport department.  She replaces Lydia H. Kennard, who resigned in January 2007 to return to the private sector.

            Before joining LAWA, Lindsey served as an executive vice president at McBee

Strategic Consulting, LLC, an aviation lobbying and consulting practice in Washington,D.C.  Prior to that post, she was aviation director for the Seattle-TacomaInternationalAirportand Port of Seattle.  Her background also includes serving as director and development manager of the Alaska International Airport System.

            Los Angeles World Airports is the City department that owns and operates four airports in Southern California. These airports are: Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International (ONT), LA/Palmdale Regional (PMD) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY).
