LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE RECRUITS GRADUATE FROM LAPD ACADEMY CLASS

(Los Angeles, California – May 29, 2007) Four new Los Angeles Airport Police recruits are joining the ranks of the Los Angeles Airport Police following their graduation from the Los Angeles Police Department Academy at Elysian Park on May 25.

The new officers are Sergio Barot, Roberto Figueroa, Pablo Ayala and Bryan Colindres, and they are the first airport police officers to graduate from the LAPD Academy in more than 15 years. The Los Angeles Airport Police Division transitioned its training of new police officers to the LAPD academy in October 2006.

Los Angeles World Airports Deputy Executive Director of Law Enforcement and Protection Services, James T. Butts Jr. and Los Angeles Airport Police Acting Chief Brian A. Walker attended the graduation exercises along with Assistant Chief’s Errol Southers, Frank Fabrega, George Centeno, and a host of other Airport Police personnel.

All four officers excelled in the academy and were recognized as high achievers. Officer Barot was the proud recipient of two honorary awards being recognized as the "top" academic student and number one in firearms shooting proficiency in his academy class.

Also joining the airport police ranks along with the four new graduates are three lateral officers, John Shepherd, Abel Burboa and Salvador Arevalo, Jr. All seven officers were sworn in by Los Angeles Airport Police Acting Chief Brian A. Walker May 21, at the Airport Police headquarters.

The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County, with more than 1,100 law enforcement, security and staff personnel. The Airport Police is a division of Los Angeles World Airports, the City department that owns and operates four airports in Southern California: Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, LA/Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys (general aviation).
