LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS RECEIVES ELEVENTH CONSECUTIVE DIAMOND AWARD IN NINE YEARS FOR EMPLOYEE RIDESHARE PROGRAM

Rideshare Program Saves 1,400 Vehicle Trips, 6.5 Million Commute Miles, 500,000 Gallons of Gasoline and 8 Million Pounds of Air Emissions Annually

(Los Angeles, California – May 23, 2007) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has received its eleventh consecutive Regional Rideshare Diamond Award from Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Association (LACMTA/Metro) and the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC). This year’s award is for "Most Outstanding Overall Program."

LAWA's multi-faceted Rideshare Program includes 63 subsidized vanpools, 69 carpools, public transit incentives, bicycle facilities, commuter advocacy, marketing activities and special events to recruit and retain program participants. LAWA distributes LAX FlyAway, Metro, and EZ Regional monthly transit passes onsite and free of charge to LAWA employees who commute to work by bus or rail. As a result, employee participation in the Transit Program at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has doubled from January 2005 to the present. Currently, LAWA is distributing over 200 Metro Passes and over 30 LAX FlyAway passes each month, and 400 employees are vanpooling. Twenty-two percent of LAX employees and 21 percent of all LAWA employees are actively participating in one of LAWA’s Rideshare Programs.

This voluntary program is one of the most comprehensive commuter benefits programs offered by an employer in Southern California. LAWA's Rideshare Programs save more than 1,400 vehicle trips per day; 6,500,000 commute miles per year; and 500,000 gallons of gasoline annually, as well as thousands of dollars in insurance and vehicle depreciation costs and countless hours spent on Southern California's over-burdened freeways. In addition, LAWA’s Rideshare Programs eliminate nearly eight million pounds of air emissions annually.

In 2006, LAWA received a national award from the Association for Commuter Transportation for "Outstanding Service in the Public Sector" and a Gold Medal in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s "Best Workplaces for Commuters Race to Excellence." LAX is the only airport in the country to have received either of these awards.

Los Angeles World Airports is a Los Angeles City department that owns and operates four airports in the Southern California region: LAX, LA/Ontario International, LA/Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys.
