RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR WORK NEAR LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AND VAN NUYS AIRPORTS

(Los Angeles, California – May 21, 2007) Two contracts have been approved by the Board of Airport Commissioners for work to be undertaken in its Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports residential soundproofing programs. Both contracts were awarded to AMD Construction Group, Inc., of Orange.

The first contract, in the amount of $931,700, provides for soundproofing modification work on 39 dwelling units in the LAX noise-impacted area located in City Council District 11. The undertaking consists of 30 condominium units, one five-unit apartment, two single-family dwellings and one duplex.

The second contract for $712,000 provides for similar work on 20 dwellings -- 15 condominium units and five single-family dwellings -- within Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) noise-impacted area in Council Districts 6 and 12.

Construction modifications in both the LAX and VNY projects involve installation of double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation air conditioning systems to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau. A community office, located at 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd. in Westchester, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for additional information.
