CONTRACTS OKAYED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING WORK NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – April 10, 2007) Two low-bid contracts have been approved by the Board of Airport Commissioners for work being undertaken in the Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Residential Soundproofing Program.

The first contract, in the amount of $1.2 million, has been awarded to AMD Construction Group Inc., of Orange. The second contract, for $701,000, has been awarded to Harry H. Joh Construction, Inc., of Anaheim.

The first contract provides for soundproofing modification work on a total of 64 dwelling units -- 42 condominium units, seven single-family homes, two duplex apartments, one 3-bedroom apartment and one 8-unit apartment building.

The second contract provides for soundproofing modification work on 32 dwelling units: 23 condominium units, 5 single family dwellings and one 4-unit apartment building.

All the structures are located within the LAX-noise impacted area of Los Angeles City Council District 11, which is represented by Councilmember Bill Rosendahl.

The modifications involve installation of double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation air conditioning systems to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes residences in the communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles.
