RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING CONTRACT AWARDED FOR WORK NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – December 1, 2008)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to DAB Construction, Inc., of Los Angeles for a portion of the Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Residential Soundproofing Program.

The $953,370 contract covers sound insulation modifications on 49 dwelling units (24 condominium units, seven single-family dwellings, three duplexes, 1 three-unit apartment and 1 nine-unit apartment), all within Los Angeles City Council District 11.

The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes more than 9,400 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNL) of 65 decibels or higher.  Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The 49 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of units completed or under construction and approved by the Board to 6,267.  The remaining 3,133 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or have declined to participate.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau.  A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
