LAX CONCESSIONS REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS ATTRACTS 43 APPLICATIONS

(Los Angeles, California – October 29, 2009)  In response to a request for proposals,Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) received today 43 applications for concession opportunities in Terminals 4, 5, 7 and 8.  This request is the launch of the much anticipated new airport concession program.

“We are gratified and very excited about the number of responses we received, especially in the midst of this unpredictable economy,” said Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey.  “We are particularly encouraged by the number and the diversity of proposals that include local Los Angeles brands and businesses.”

A total of 25 food and beverage proposals, along with 18 retail applications, will be evaluated, airport officials said.  Following this step, the proposers will be interviewed by an evaluation panel of City employees.  The panel will make its recommendations to the Executive Director who, in turn, will ask for authorization by the Board of Airport Commissioners to award the new concession agreements.  The process is expected to be completed in early 2010.

LAX, the sixth busiest airport in the world, offers more than 565 daily flights to 81 destinations in the U.S. and over 1,000 weekly non-stop flights to 65 international destinations.
