(Los Angeles – April 27, 2009)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) will host the American Association of Airport Executives’ (AAAE) Fifth Annual Aviation Air Quality Conference being held April 29 - May 1 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.  The annual AAAE Air Quality Conference is the preeminent aviation air quality conference for the U.S. aviation industry.

Theme of this year’s conference is “Aviation in a Climate-Changing World,” and will provide a comprehensive overview of issues and regulatory requirements facing airports, while offering interactive sessions and case studies that serve to enhance job performance and knowledge base.  Welcoming the visitors to Los Angeles will be LAWA Deputy Executive Director Roger Johnson.

The conference will begin with a special workshop detailing how to create and format greenhouse gas inventories at airports.  The three-day event will culminate with a tour of Los AngelesInternationalAirport.

Speakers will include prominent representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, airports and other aviation sectors.

Other sessions will explore areas such as the basics of climate change, what actions airports are taking to deal with climate change effects, and how to implement air quality and climate action plans within today’s tight financial constraints.

An overview of federal, state and international regulations, a panel exploring continued issues with criteria pollutants and a session highlighting unique aviation airport projects round out the second day of the conference.

On the last day of the conference, LAWA Environmental Services Division Manager Robert Freeman will lead a panel discussion on “Unique Aviation/Airport Projects,” followed by a panel question-and-answer session.

Founded in 1928, AAAE is the world's largest professional organization for airport executives, representing thousands of airport management personnel at public-use commercial and general aviation airports.  AAAE's members represent some 850 airports and hundreds of companies and organizations that support airports.
