LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IMPROVES SOCIAL MEDIA SITES ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER, LAUNCHES YOUTUBE CHANNEL

 

(Los Angeles,California – July 15, 2010) Recent improvements to Los AngelesInternationalAirport’s (LAX’s) social media sites on Facebook and Twitter,and launch of a YouTube channel to provide more information on LAX happenings,are resulting in significant increases in fans and followers.  There are over 1,300 fans of LAX (Los AngelesInternationalAirport) Facebook page; over 2,500 Twitter followers @LAX_Official; and hundreds of viewers on the new LAXairport1 YouTube Channel.  Fans of the LAXFacebook page are increasing faster than ever before,with the addition of nearly 500 fans in less than a month. 

 “As LAX strives to retain its competitiveness as the premier U.S. West Coast gateway, part of that progress includes enhancing and expanding our social media capability to reach travelers with up-to-the-minute information on developments at LAX,” said Michael Molina, Los Angeles World Airports deputy executive of external affairs. “To continue the success of these sites, we encourage fans, followers and viewers.” 

The LAX (Los AngelesInternationalAirport) Facebook page (www.facebook.com/laxairport) provides passengers information on airport construction projects, environmental programs such as the preservation of the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly, and passenger amenities and services. 

The LAX_Official Twitter account (www.twitter.com/LAX_Official) provides real-time announcements about LAX, including airline fare deals, new passenger services and amenities; flight status and current airport conditions. 

The newest initiative, the LAXairport1 YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/LAXairport1), is currently showing footage of the newly renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal.  The channel will provide videos of recent events, construction, and airline news. 

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the third busiest airport in the U.S.and seventh in the world, offering more than 565 daily flights to 81 destinations in the U.S. and over 1,000 weekly nonstop flights to 65 international destinations on over 75 carriers.  LAX is part of a system of three Southern California airports – along with LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a department of the City of Los Angeles.
