FACEBOOK NAMES LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT “MOST SOCIAL AIRPORT IN THE WORLD”

More People Check-In to LAX via Social Media than Any other Airport in the World

(Los Angeles, California – December 13, 2011) Facebook today named Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) the “Most Social Airport in the World,” based on more people checking-in via Facebook or third-party location applications while at LAX than at any other airport in the world.  Launched in 2009, the LAX Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LAInternationalAirport) today has nearly 39,200 fans.

“LAX has a lot to talk about with over $4 billion in on-going construction of new facilities and renovations in all of our terminals and our social media sites are cost-effective elements of our customer service program,” said Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey.  “We’re excited to receive this recognition and are committed to ensuring these sites remain relevant and valuable to our travelers and fans.”

LAX’s social media program also includes a Twitter page (www.twitter.com/LAX_Official) with over 8,275 followers.  The LAX Facebook and Twitter pages provide travelers and general public timely information on flight delays, weather conditions, travel tips, construction news on the future of LAX, and a platform for comments and questions.  According to airport officials, as the future of LAX unfolds, social media will play a bigger role with special promotions and surprises to keep fans and followers excited.
