SUMMER DANCE PERFORMANCE AT LAX FLYAWAY® BUS TERMINAL IN VAN NUYS

(Los Angeles, California – June 27, 2011)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) will present an evening of site-specific dance, light projection and music on Saturday, July 2, 2011, featuring an original dance performance titled Flyway Home, directed and choreographed by Sarah Elgart.  This summer performance is free to the public and will begin at 8:15 p.m. and repeated at 9:45 p.m. at the LAX FlyAway® bus terminal, 7610 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys.

Dancers will engage in an interactive production incorporating the outdoor space and architecture of the bus terminal, as well as original music by Feltlike and large-scale projections by artist Stephen Glassman.  Dancers will move through the bus terminal facilities and open-air areas, while travelers make their way to their destinations over July 4th weekend.  A display of light patterns and images projected onto the exterior of the bus terminal’s multi-level parking structure will transform the structure into a large-scale projection screen.

Elgart has created work for dance, theater and film, including site-specific performances in downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Woodland Hills, as well as at the Mark Taper Forum and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  Flyaway Home features dancers:  Hai Cohen, Alexandria Diaz de Fato, Ja Young Kim, Andi Schermoly and Evan Swenson.

This event, the second in a series of new performance initiatives, was made possible through the LAWA Art Program in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.  The goal of the Performing Arts Program at LAWA is to enhance the experience of travelers, visitors and staff of the LAX FlyAway® by creating pedestrian-friendly amenities, vibrant public spaces, and accentuating the overall service-oriented mission of the LAX FlyAway® through the performing arts.
