FROMMER’S NAMES THREE LAX FACILITIES AMONG TOP 10 RESTAURANTS, AIRLINE-AIRPORT LOUNGES AT U.S. AIRPORTS

(Los Angeles, California – March 24, 2011)  Frommer’s Travel Guides recently announced three facilities at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in its Top 10 picks among all U.S. airports.  The Encounter in the landmark Theme Building was listed among Frommer’s Top 10 airport restaurants, and the oneworld alliance airline lounge and the reLAX Lounge among its Top 10 airline-airport lounges.

Frommer’s described The Encounter as “truly unique, inhabiting a wacky outer space-themed building…a 1960s Star Trek set gone Technicolor…serving art-food (American classics in oddball visual arrangements) that’s simultaneously hip and kid-friendly.”  The Encounter is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday, and from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday.  For more information, call (310) 215-5151.  The Observation Deck on the rooftop of the restaurant also is open on Saturday and Sunday only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Frommer’s, the 54-year-old travel-guide business, talked with frequent fliers, guidebook editors and others in the airline industry to choose North America’s Top 10 airport lounges.  Both the oneworld alliance airline lounge and the reLAX Lounge are located in the LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).  The oneworld alliance lounge is operated by British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas Airways and Iberia (which will begin nonstop service between LAX and Madrid on Monday, March 28, 2011), and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.  Frommer’s pointed out, “In addition to nine showers, free liquor and Wi-Fi access, the free food is particularly good.”

Frommer’s also praised the reLAX Lounge, a privately operated business lounge located before passenger security screening and open daily to all airport visitors from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight.  Its current rates are $15 for one hour, $30 for three hours and $50 for eight hours.  The guidebook   company described the reLAX Lounge as “…a quiet and spacious place to watch the planes taxi around and take off,” and “non-alcoholic drinks are free, as are cookies, fresh fruit and wireless Internet access.”
