LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS ISSUES STATEMENT ON CERTIFIED SERVICE PROVIDER PROGRAM
(Los Angeles, California – April 24, 2012) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is committed to providing a safe environment for those who work at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the traveling public.
Following the September 2010 Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approval of an overall concept of the Certified Service Provider Program (CSPP), LAWA has worked cooperatively and held numerous meetings with stakeholders who do business at LAX and labor unions, to craft a program acceptable to all.
While all Certified Service Providers must comply with safety and security requirements published in the Rules and Regulations Manual for LAX, the CSPP would require companies that conduct certain business at LAX to meet standards to include an application process, minimum requirements, enforcement of program standards, and payment of fees and charges.
LAWA will continue to meet with the airlines, service providers and labor unions to create a mutually agreeable program and gain consensus for the proposed standards and enforcement measures. LAWA managers also will brief its Board of Airport Commissioners and the Los Angeles City Council's Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee on the CSPP program status in May.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Airport Police has been working closely with labor unions to provide options that will allow workers the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to protest at LAX on May 1, 2012. Limitations will be set so vehicular and passenger traffic in the Central Terminal Area are minimally impacted. Travelers, however, should prepare for possible delays.
