-- LAX TRAFFIC ADVISORY FOR TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2012 --

(Los Angeles, California – April 30, 2012)  Passengers, visitors and workers traveling to/from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) between 12 noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, are advised to expect vehicular traffic congestion and possible delays due to a temporary closure of westbound and eastbound Century Boulevard (airport ingress and egress) between Airport Boulevard and the LAX Central Terminal Area.  Outbound passengers are advised to add 45 minutes to their drive time to LAX to ensure they catch their departing flights. 

            The temporary closure of the two blocks in both directions of Century Boulevard will be in response to a scheduled May Day labor demonstration at LAX by SIEU 1877 (United Service Workers West).  Upwards of 1,200 union members are expected to participate in the demonstration and a march.  The demonstration will take place inside the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) starting at 12 noon. The union members are then expected to march on the north side of the Central Terminal Area in an easterly direction from Terminal 1 onto Century Boulevard to Avion Street, where the march will end.

            Traffic headed to LAX on westbound Century Boulevard will be diverted to northbound Airport Boulevard to westbound 96th Street to northbound Vicksburg Street over the 96th Street Bridge onto the Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals roadways.

            All other entrances into the airport will remain open, including: 

• Westbound I-105 freeway to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard onto Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals roadways
• Lincoln Boulevard to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard to 96th Street Bridge onto Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals roadways
• Southbound Sepulveda Boulevard to westbound “Little Century” Boulevard (adjacent to Park One) onto Lower/Arrivals roadway only

            Traffic exiting the airport on the Upper/Departures Level roadway will be diverted onto southbound Sepulveda Boulevard.  Traffic exiting on the Lower/Arrivals roadway will be diverted to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard. 

            Electronic informational signs will be used to aid law enforcement officers in directing

motorists.
