LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LAUNCHES CONTEST FOR NEW TOM BRADLEY INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL GRAND OPENING CEREMONY

Winning Idea To Be Used as Official Ribbon-Cutting for the New Terminal

(Los Angeles, California – July 23, 2013)  Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is launching a social media contest for the public to submit unusual and creative ideas for a grand opening ceremony of the Antonio R. Villaraigosa Pavilion and south concourse boarding gates of Phase One of the $1.9-billion New Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) this September 2013, when the terminal begins flight operations.  Ideas must be cost-effective, creative and “out-of-the-box” from the standard ribbon-cutting ceremony using large scissors.

Individuals or groups can e-mail ideas to laxpr@lawa.org through Sunday, August 11, 2013.  The winning concept will be announced on the multiple LAX social media sites and be used as the official grand opening ceremony of New TBIT.  The winner(s) will also receive an LAX gift basket.

The New Tom Bradley International Terminal was previewed to thousands of members of the general public during a day-long community open house in June 2013.  The new terminal will double the size of the existing TBIT; have 18 new boarding gates (of which nine can accommodate the double-decker Airbus A380 and other new-generation aircraft); and offer 150,000 square feet of new space for news-and-gift, specialty retail and duty-free shopping, as well as grab-and-go, casual and gourmet dining choices.
