NEW LAX FLYAWAY BUS SERVICE AT EXPO/LA BREA BEGINS JULY 1 WITH SPECIAL $6 INTRODUCTORY FARE OFFERED DURING FIRST SIX MONTHS; FARE AT FLYAWAY VAN NUYS TO RISE $1 TO $8 ONE WAY
(Los Angeles, California – June 27, 2013) The new LAX FlyAway® bus service between the Metro Rail Exposition Line rail station at La Brea Avenue and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) begins July 1, airport officials reminded the public this week. The station is located six blocks south of the Santa Monica (I-10) Freeway at the intersection of Exposition Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.
To encourage ridership on this new route, a special introductory one-way fare of $6 will be in effect through December 31, 2013. On January 1, 2014, the fare increases to $7. The Expo/La Brea FlyAway® service will offer 18 daily trips (nine trips each way).
In a related matter, the one-way fare between LAX and the FlyAway® Van Nuys bus terminal will increase $1 to $8, effective July 1. The LAX FlyAway® bus terminal is located at 7610 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys.
Airport officials said the fare increase seeks to recover the full cost of the FlyAway® service at Van Nuys, including operating and maintenance costs, such as security, custodial services, landscaping, building maintenance, and utilities (gas, water and electricity). Airport officials said that with the fare increase, projected annual operating costs will be reduced from an annual deficit of approximately $531,000 to anticipated net operating revenue of approximately $168,000.
