Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has received media inquiries as to its current position regarding a potential transfer of LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT)

(Ontario, California – February 6, 2014)  The Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) adopted the “Guiding Concepts and Principles for Negotiations Related to Potential Divestiture of ONT” on December 17, 2012.  The document establishes criteria for LAWA to consider a potential transfer of ONT, including that any potential new owner must continue to operate ONT as a commercial airport, that measures will be taken to protect current employees of ONT and that any transfer will protect LAWA’s financial interests.

A copy of the guiding concepts and principles can be found at:www.lawa.org/uploadedFiles/board_agenda/Reports/boac121217x1330_reports.pdf

LAWA continues to adhere to the principles adopted and reflected in its prior resolution.    “LAWA is willing to consider a transfer of ONT to a qualified entity representing the cities and counties in the service area of the airport,” said Commission President, Sean Burton.   “However, LAWA will only consider such a transfer in exchange for fair compensation for assets transferred and reasonable protections for airport workers, including City of Los Angeles employees.”

ONT is located in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles from downtown Los Angeles in the center of Southern California. It is a medium-hub, full-service airport with commercial service to 14 major U.S. cities and through service to many international destinations. There are approximately 60 daily flights offered by 7 carriers.
