LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS RESPONDS TO INACCURATE MEDIA REPORTS
Ontario, California - Several recent news reports claim airlines are either pulling out of Ontario International Airport (ONT) or will drastically slash offerings over the next three months. The most important point to make is that NO AIRLINES ARE PULLING OUT OF THE AIRPORT! In fact, it is just the opposite…flights and an airline were added in 2013.
The decline in Ontario's total seats for the first quarter of 2014 is also not as dramatic as is being stated, just over 7-percent and not 24.5-percent. Like every year over the past several years, airlines make adjustments to their seasonal services based on seasonal travel patterns and changes in demand. Seasonal demand will increase as we head further into the calendar year and is similar to many other airports in the region.
The number of fewer airline seats at ONT is reflective of two things:
1. Airlines are using smaller aircraft to service scheduled routes
2. Some seasonal routes have been eliminated
When the spring schedule comes out, airlines will add seats back as demand increases. In April, Volaris Airline will also begin new service to Guadalajara, Mexico.
As for non-stop fares, if you compare ONT to peer airports, John Wayne and Burbank, fares at ONT are extremely competitive and many times beat those other airport fares to like markets.
As we have been advertising over the past several months, “The Cat’s Out of the Bag!”
When you choose ONT you get 60 daily flights, 14 nonstop destinations and competitive non-stop fares. ONT is the purrfect choice for non-stop fares.
ONT is located in Southern California’s “Inland Empire” region, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, and close to Orange County’s Disneyland and other major theme parks, San Gabriel Valley, and Palm Springs. It is a medium-hub, full-service airport with 7 carriers offering daily nonstop flights to 13 major U.S. cities plus daily non-stops to Guadalajara, Mexico, making ONT the Inland Empire’s preferred airport for nonstop flights throughout the West. In addition to scheduled passenger service, ONT is a major cargo hub and handled more than 447,230 tons of cargo in 2012.
